What is so Great about the Gold Jacket? Why does every NFL athlete strive for greatness season after season for a chance of a lifetime? Would you DO IT? As I embarked on an experience of a lifetime tomorrow, I began to research the history of the Hall of Fame Enshrinement week and the most symbolic the “GOLD JACKET”.
The Gold Jacket is similar to the Green Jacket and the Masters Golf Tournament. Why do thousands of sports fans descend to Canton, Ohio for one week to catch a glimpse of their favorite player receiving that Prestige GOLD JACKET? August 5, 2017 The new class will be inducted to the NFL Pro Football Hall of Fame.
History of the Gold Jacket
The new class of inductees is named after the Superbowl. Each Gold Jacket is custom tailored and given to new hall of fame inductees to symbolize their induction into the hall of fame. The 90 day process of custom tailoring the gold jacket is a long process before the enshrinement festivities in August. Haggar Clothing Company is the official provider for the Gold Jackets. As of this year, Haggar has custom tailored 287 Gold Jackets.
The Gold jackets are mailed out to all inductees in May with strict rules. They are prohibited from taking any pictures with the jacket as that is reserved for when they officially receive them at the induction weekend. Each inductee of the new class receives their jacket in May to make sure it fits properly.
Each gold jacket is custom fitted for the inductee. The jacket hall of fame buttons as well as the hall of fame patch are hand stitched onto the jacket. The jacket has a unique lining on the inside. The inside breast label bears the inductees name and enshrinement number.
Life after Football
Enshrinement week represent Excellence, Dignity, Grace, Respect and Admiration. Life after Football is unparalleled for the seven new inductees. Each inductee story is similar while learning great lessons they all will be ever grateful to be amongst football legends when they received their gold jacket, ring and the unveiling of the bust that will display in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Gold Jacket ceremony dinner is Friday, August 4, 2017 and the Gold Jacket ceremony is Saturday, August 5, 2017.
